Lately I’ve been recreating some our group policies. One thing that wasn’t consistent was that some of our client machines were showing different results on the Advanced tab of IE settings. Most of them were fine but the one that seemed to cause the issue was that some of the clients were enabling the following Advanced setting:
- Outlook 2010 Linked Image Cannot Be Displayed
- Outlook 2013 Linked Image Cannot Be Displayed
- Outlook Linked Image Cannot Be Displayed
Outlook 2010 Linked Image Cannot Be Displayed
This was causing Outlook to not display images from certain senders.
The others give a red cross, and the error 'The linked image cannot be displayed. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location. I have done some Googling, and it suggested to change the security settings in Internet Explorer, but those settings were already applied correctly.
Outlook 2013 Linked Image Cannot Be Displayed
To resolve this i applied the following group policy setting:
This has just started in the last few days and all Windows 10 updates have been applied. Messages that use images for links are replaced with a red X and a message that the 'Linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Verify that the link points to the correct file and location.' When you are using Microsoft Outlook, images will display a red X instead of the actual image. And, when you try to download the image you receive the following error: The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Subsequently, in the future, that will be displayed perfectly when you open an email message. But, when you open the message at that time, you should save the message if you need it to be displayed next time. Method #3: Unblock Images for all the Outlook Emails. Just in case, you are using Outlook version 2016, 2013 and 2010. Sometimes the linked image cannot be displayed in Outlook due to your Temporary Internet Files folder. The contents of this folder can get corrupted, and the best way to fix the issue is to choose a different location for a new Temporary Internet Files folder. By doing so, you’ll recreate the Temporary Internet Files directory.

I changed to Disable and the pictures starting loading.
